Malnutrition Surge in Northern Nigeria: Addressing a Looming Humanitarian Crisis

Hybrid Event
Background
On behalf of Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Health, we write to cordially invite you for the 1-day dialogue to discuss Malnutrition Surge in the Northern Nigeria.
In 2023, FAO predicted that over 26.5 million Nigerians would suffer from acute hunger in 2024, highlighting a severe and escalating crisis. Recent data from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reveal a drastic surge in cases, with the number of malnourished children in Northern Nigeria more than doubling compared to last year. MSF announced over 200% increase of admission in their inpatient centres in Northeast and Northwest and over 10 million children suffering from acute malnutrition in Nigeria.
Goal
The goal of the dialogue is to highlight the urgent need to collectively address the crisis, encourage the development of effective and coordinated solutions, encourage coordination between the federal government, state government and non-governmental agencies and strategise for long-term prevention.
Athena Centre expects the event to increase public awareness, identify existing action plans and encourage immediate coordination of the various response actions and enhance collaboration among Government – federal and state, international and local NGOS and local communities to effectively address the crisis.
Limited Availability
Limited seats available for the first 25 people to indicate to join in-person.
