The 2023 elections saw record-low voter turnout, reflecting growing public disillusionment with Nigeria’s democracy. Long-standing issues like electoral malpractice, weak institutions, and poor political representation persist. Past reforms have had limited impact, with deeper problems like executive overreach and low civic trust unresolved. Despite setbacks, civic engagement is rising as Nigerians continue to push for accountability and meaningful democratic progress.
